Patricia Wentzel

Patricia Wentzel lives at the confluence of two rivers and a messy, satisfying life. Jack is the latest feline addition to her household, a fine black and white boy who loves balls with bells inside. She has been previously published and that’s enough about that.

The Between Time

It is the between time.
Patchy snow reveals the brown dregs
of last year’s plenty.
The eruption of green that is Spring
waits for warmer days, shorter nights.
But the grouse know in their bones,
in their grinding gullets,
in the renewal of their urge to dance,
wings spread,
head down,
tail flared –
it will not be long now.
