Chapbook Submissions

After three years and 30 issues of running the independent literary journal The Passionfruit Review, we are beyond thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of the Review’s sister press and our first call for chapbook submissions.

We open for submissions in April 2026 and will publish our first title in Spring 2027, with initial scope for publishing two books per year.

We are keeping numbers low so that we can promise our fullest attention throughout the publication process and promise to be entirely dedicated to ensuring that every chapbook is published to a high standard. Passionfruit remains a small operation fuelled by a passion for poetry and our continued investment in the role of independent presses in the production and circulation of brilliant work.

We are drawn to contemporary poetry that is intentional and meticulous in its use of language. Take a look at previous issues of our journal, The Passionfruit Review, for an idea of the kind of thing we might be interested in publishing – but know that we are also keen to hear new voices and to broaden our horizons. We are particularly keen on poetry that contends with love (which we want to interpret as broadly, interestingly, and as tenuously as possible – again, check out the Review), but we welcome anything that strikes you as worth writing, whether that’s an exploration of hope, home, a particularly compelling mollusc, and/or local or global politics.

We will give preference to manuscripts which feel cohesive and coherent in their narrative, style, or thematic contentions (though they needn’t do all three).  We are open to publishing emerging poets as well as more established voices.

If we accept your manuscript, you will receive a monetary award of £100, 15 free copies, and a standard royalties contract. All titles will be sold on our website and distributed internationally. You will be involved at every stage of the process and we will make sure that the final product is something you can be really proud of – we want every title we publish to be as meticulously produced and thoughtfully crafted as the poems it contains.

Guidelines
Length: 25-40 pages (slightly longer or shorter will be considered)
Reading fee: £5
What to submit: a 10-page sample (.doc or .docx preferred) and a cover letter including a brief third-person bio and a statement (no more than 100 words) letting us know your vision for the work as a whole. If your submission is shortlisted for publication, we will then request your manuscript in full.

Eligibility
We welcome submissions from anywhere in the world, from anyone over the age of 18.
Poetry must be written primarily in English.
Your manuscript must not have been previously published as a collection, although individual poems or sequences may have appeared elsewhere. Please just mention these in your acknowledgements.
We accept simultaneous submissions.
We will not consider any AI-generated writing. If you engage at all with generative AI in your creative work, please get in touch with us with a full statement detailing your process, including your critical approach.

About the fee
We are an independent press with no external funding. We are passionate about making a home for brilliant new poetry and producing high-quality publications that poets can be proud of. We charge a reading fee in order to fund the costs associated with publication. We do offer a limited number of free submissions per reading window on a first-come basis. If the submission fee poses an obstacle for you, get in touch.
