Morning Coffee
This morning I heard coffee being ground
in the kitchen
greeted by the smell
wafting in the room
to our bed where I lay
tucked underneath my grandma’s quilt.
The sound was simple –
smell, recognizable
ordinary, daily things
but all at once I knew you loved me
these senses told me so.
So come sit down
to toast and eggs
we’ll drink the coffee
keep each other warm
let the day lay ahead of us.
