‘Family Business’ by Erika Jing

Family Business

we don’t run a pizza shop, laundromat
or corner store. the big
boss likes to dictate as
big men do he chides as
they do he doles out
praise as
God

upon hearing Adam pray
for tenderness, kneels down
beside him, fingers
soft and wandering
part his open chest,
pries out wet, a gleaming
grieving little bone.
