Dress Button

We do not weigh our love,
but–
When I carry mine, I
place it on a desk, next to
the plants I am
bound to neglect.

When you carry yours,
you walk behind me, place it on
a shelf, out of
reach,
behind books and
picture frames. Barriers.

We will not weigh our love,
but–

I am a dress button,
tucking on the corner of your longing,
collecting dust, hoping to be sewn
onto any clothing you
own.
