‘Salad Hands’ by Elizabeth Walton

Salad Hands

When I look back at the garden,
I think of my life this way.

My life as a salad.
My life
—as a diverse lettuce type.

My life, as a green heart
chakra under a white
mesh veil,

my life—as something worth
planting.
Worth growing

and devouring. My life
—as a seed cast in dirt
before the nitrogen-rain.
