‘Tinnitus’ by Kalum Glackton

Tinnitus

I woke startled by ringing.
I knew it would pass, as it did before.
I remembered the movie
with Julianne Moore claiming it’s the final blast
of a frequency you won’t hear again.

It’s not lost on me
that the glory of your laughter

and the brilliance of its origin,

and the gravity of your hand
gently arriving in mine,

repeat,
screech,
pierce

a bit less intensely each morning.
