‘Sonnet on your Homemade Lentil Soup’ by Sheila E. Murphy

Sonnet on your Homemade Lentil Soup

If I should overdose on your homemade lentil soup
Don’t stop me I love even the sound of it
The aroma lifts me to future buoyancy
The taste I live for removes most unhappiness
I want this soup for dinner breakfast snack time always
I love the brownness of your lentil soup
Spritzed with lemon dusted with a whisper of lemon rind
I feel such sorrow for anyone who has not had your lentil soup
The most dramatic season of the world is daylight
When you serve me homemade lentil soup your soup
As only you can make it only for me
The blender my express ride to bliss asks please
Keep blending keep serving keep smiling
Into the miraculous recipe for good
