‘Signs’ by Stan Sanvel Rubin

Signs

An invisible chainsaw
vibrates the air

A distant truck booms
These are signs

of people beginning
to rebuild the world

They start every morning
in the lot you can’t see

through the deep woods
that will never die

no matter how often
they are assaulted

and the new house
will replace

the one that
was taken down

and driven away in pieces.
