‘Misprision’ by Jeffrey Thompson

Misprision

The moon is one thing
the stars another
I have no right
to talk about.
The sky stands on its toes
like any of us, holds its tongue
like some.

Better than most I believe I know
the elements of the inchoate offense.
You could say
they’re internalized.
I won’t ask
for what I want. I won’t try
to stop you.
