‘Fourth Anniversary’ by John Pring

Fourth Anniversary

The day finds its way
back to me, summer’s thick

haze obscuring the distance
between there                          and here.

Name something sharp
-er to the tongue

than parting, words
pulled from the wet mouth

like teeth.                    Tell me, do you see
the flame carving the horizon?

Let me reach it, and find
you there, returned.
