A Few Days Ago
A few days ago, it snowed; thick flakes fell slowly from the white
sky. I watched the loft of them from the kitchen window, their thin
dusting on the walkway, the leaves of the bay laurel.
Only for a few fragile minutes it stayed, a short liminal moment
when it covered everything, then nothing.
I noticed today that the highest peaks of the eastern mountain are
still snow-capped. In this I found a sense of longing—for all the
things that never last, for something permanent.
