Look and Feel
As I sit unwrapping a mandarin,
I feel child-like.
And I wonder how it feels to you
when you unwrap citrus with your daughters.
Does it feel ancient and primal,
transcendent even—
to bask in the shared energies
of your fruitful cycle-breaking.
Breaking our hearts with its purity:
yours while you glow with love at your karma’s embrace,
and mine, while I grasp for more detail.
As I wonder further,
how must the dishes in your cupboard
look and feel;
my envy copious
that they fall beneath your daily gaze, touch
and need.
