Pretend for a moment that scars
are clouds on the sky of your skin.
Laying in the grass of my bed
below you and looking up
they look like…
Pink lightning in failing dusk.
Pale rivers where the water
is wake-me-up cold.
Branches on the last dead tree of winter
before it bursts into green flame in spring.
An ocean horizon line at dawn,
worlds of water just beyond.
phantom arms of celibate saints,
finally embracing.
Lines in the sand
between a body
and a body that loves.
